One important point to be noted here is, today at-least there is platform for artists to perform in the field of konkani literature, theater, music and even konkani traditional activities irrespective of which group you belong to, all are welcome. Other than this where can Konkani artist find a regular opportunity? For today’s survival of konkani artists, either they should be part of a particular group or look for influential god-fathers, for some artists this is not easy because in return they have to flatter the godfathers, praise and raise them high or should have good net work connections not only in mangalore but elsewhere. Obviously no one can see their own back, the people who are defending should ask themselves what is their contribution into it. Some people are known today only because of their association with xyz and not that they have achieved something extraordinary. Mangloreans have supported financially and provided hospitality for several konkani artists all over, unfortunately some of them have totally ignored them, in order to gain publicity, limelight and fame they have forgotten their striving days instead devise plans to promote themselves taking prominent posts and titles in organizations. While pointing fingers at others, remember no one is perfect. It’s human nature to be greedy, manipulative and selfish, if we think we are best and no place for rest then why make such a huge cry over Konkani. Music has no boundaries. No matter what language, genre, rythym, it can always find a way to everyone’s heart. Whether it is old or new. We are no more like the frog in the well who knows not the ocean everyone is smart enough to know the truth and pick what is best for them.

Dear Lancy, Our life under those village set-up days, everyone had toiled and struggled in their own way. It is okay. But as a Composer and a Singer, what was your motive. Was it to develop your talents or for the edification of Glory of Mother Konkani if not for your daily livelihood. I agree, due to some rude comments function went under rude shock but let us forget it now as you have decided not to invite any special guest for special troubles.

After reading this article I understood who the person who is trying to pull down Wilfiaab. He can not do it. Konkani Kogul Wilfy Rebimbus is a great Konkani lover and this guy in question is not even fit for cleaning his shoes. Ask him how he is making his living after leaving his paid job since long...!!!.....Is it not fooling Konkani people in the name of Konkani...????

Last year one Mangalorean SVD priest visited me. He noticed the set of Wilfy’s Golden Edition in my house. “Yes, Father, but for this Konkani music I would have gone insane during this retirement boredom!” “GOOD good, you can brush up some Konkani too!”. “Well, I hardly speak Konkani, not many around to talk to”. He too listened for a while with my family. To give credit to a friend, I have to put these two lines here: During some get together, Austin said, “One of my goal is to bring Wilfy to Chicago, just as the Middle East or Canada does.” I said, “Count on my $300.” I don’t remember further talk anyway! I read testimonials such as “Loss to Konkani Language! Well, you can handle the personal loss too.Bye folks.

The Konkani world is well aware of the contributions made by Wilfy Rebimbus who never boasted about himself unlike the one who questions his legacy. There have been many efforts to insult Wilfy in the past. For creating world records these people need Wilfy’s songs. But when some new talents sing Wilfy’s song in singing reality show on telivision, these jokers ask from judges bench "why you chose a simple song?" To give first Lifetime time achievement they need Wilfy. When Wilfy’s music is celebrated they ask there is no need of raising him to altar. This is nothing but a strategy to be in news. As James, Chicago says some people always use barking at the elephant way for being known. Cheap mentality. But Legend is Legend. Returning back the award money to the organisation adding his contribution shows greatness of Wilfy.

Dear Editor, Thank you for raising your voice and supporting Konkani artists. I was surprised to read such a comment from this self-proclaimed God Father of Konkani. As per his statements so far in various media, Konkani and its culture are his property. He only knows what is right in Konkani and what is wrong. He and his hand full of followers have started this type of tactics since 25 years. Just for their survival and growth honour and other benefits. This type of attack on established Konkani artists/composers is not new by these guardians of Konkani. In my entire singing career I have seen and read this. This does hurt our sentiments and emotions but has never put us down. In 80’s when my father was struggling to establish himself in this field and people where whole heartedly supporting him and liking his songs, these same people tried their best to stop his success. When this so called Premiere organisation to safe guard Konkani had just started, the first accusation they put was the Konkani songs composed by the then composers were not at all Konkani. Only the songs published by them are Konkani and people should only support them. None of the Konkani composers so far have claimed anytime that what they sing is only pure Konkani songs or their genre is only true. Then for whom is this man accusing on stage? Most of them might have forgotten this but I remember very well what my daddy went through at that time. I had seen him disturbed and suffering within. Just because they had some Konkani periodicals under their control week after week they published lot of accusations directly or indirectly which were focused mainly on daddy.He never replied back to any of these types of Nonsense and neither did he encourage our group members to write to them back. He only replied to them through his songs. Vol 16th 1st song “Hens MunshaSangeeth… DusrenSangeeth Na” was the reply to one of their accusation. Listen to this song and you will know what daddy is explaining about music. If you listen carefully to some of his songs you will know that he has not spared any anti-social elements that have bi passed his way. I do not want to talk anything else as if I write it will be never ending. We have seen this man from our childhood, and all that he has done in the name of Konkani. We read all that comes in the media and just laugh it out. As daddy had advised us “Don’t reply to anything that comes in media. People have their right to pen their own opinion. If you find it right take it in a positive manner and try to change yourself. If you know you are right then show it in your work”. Daddy did this and people supported him wholeheartedly. But sometimes I feel it’s necessary to write if someone is misleading innocent people. Since the new generation do not know anything about what has happened in the past. After reading your article and your efforts to bring these facts to light and reading all the comments from our well-wishers, I broke my silence. Music has no language or barrier. We Konkani artists do like to keep our culture alive through music. This is only our efforts to preserve it and pass it to our next generation. But None of our popular composers so far have tried to impose a certain genre of music on the listeners other than this same person who is trying to accuse them. Before he left this World, Daddy had made a place for him in the hearts of his Well-wishers that’s why he still lives today through his songs and his work. The world knows no one can replace the name, fame and contribution of my Mahaguru Wilfy Rebimbus. His priceless creations, matchless kindness and humble living was the best answer to the poems Like GAYAN BOND KORR KOGULLE (published way back in 1980 to suppress the popularity of Wilfy by one of the poet). As Eddie Sequeira rightly stated and many have consented let me be loud and clear not One but thousand such speeches cannot change the image of Konkan Kogull Wilfy Rebimbus nor the image of the Chief guest who addressed the gathering with unknown JOSH. Let them remember If required we will build an altar for Wilfy Rebimbus for which there are enough resources and people.

HM you have rightly pointed out these issues which are going on for ages. Honestly I too agree that our current generation of singers or musicians do not have courage to confront the truth. One of the reason that they don’t want any of the konkani association to question or confront. Lest they will face their wrath and may be not recommend for their awards or sale of CDs or for their Musical Nites as a lot is depend on the sponsors and the sponsors are under the control of these associations or so call protectors of konkani language. Even when there was discussion on Kittall or on facebook a few months ago about giving recognition, there was not a single singer was ready to openly defend for their cause or fight for their cause instead the public was fighting for their cause and finally given some justification. Finally I do agree with you that the list of guest of honours at the funcation remain the same whether here in gulf or Mangalore that includes Media. Can’t help it....as our assoications who organize the programs have no say in their own to protest or object to certain names lest they will dissapoint the sponsors... that includes awards for konkani personalities.

Speaking ill about a Konkani legend like Wilfy, who is no more with us, shows the mean mentality of the person whoever it might be. Using a ready-made forum to create controversy that too without giving a shred of evidence is an act of cowardice and typical crab mentality prevalent among us. I think any person should not stoop this low and that too in an event organised by others where he was called as a guest. H M you said it right. This self-styled preserver of Konkani culture can never tolerate others getting due credit despite his circus to establish himself on top. In the name of Konkani he has filled his own thondo and that of his company. He and a small bunch of his chelas are everywhere in all Konkani functions. Having realised that he could not overtake wilfyab he is trying to insult him. This man and his chela crooks always trying to use divide and rule policy to have their own say in everything relating to Konkani. Some spineless people who cannot understand his double game have joined him. This is our tragedy. When it comes to collecting money he know to catch right people. Shamelessly he tries selling his multimple copies of his biography to gulf returnees. They pay because they don’t know his game. It is time this copycat stops his naatakgiri.

Very True Sentiments.This person never spoke positive about others. Always trying to preach others but who cares. He thinks konknani is his troupe asset poor fellow. I pity on him and his attitude.He should graduate where to speak and what to speak.

You have hit the nail bang on head HM!. Since I couldn’ t attend the night in question, had to go through the report in DW to find out who this chief guest was. Well, we all are entitled our opinions, but as you rightly said, we also should keep in mind the occasion, context and the relevance and I would like to stress that if someone in Konkani music deserves the highest honor and glory, it s the one and only late Wilfy for his creative genius. Adding to Usha Uthup s formula to success, there s no glory without guts.
